Vidya Mandir Alumni organizes – Women Health for the Teachers

On November 14th, the teachers of Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Mylapore assembled to listen to experts talk on a subject which interests and reassures most middle aged women. A team from Penn Nalam, an NGO “run by women, for women “, based in Mandaveli, Chennai, had been invited to the school premises to address the teachers on healthcare in general , and methods of early detection of certain types of cancer prevalent in women. The talk was highly interactive, well received and enhanced the awareness of the audience substantially. Mrs. Uma Balasubramaniam initiated the interactive sessions.

Penn Nalam , founded by Smt. Radhika Santhanakrishnan in 2009, does extensive service in the detection, prevention and treatment of cancer in women through screening tests and affordable treatment. It has reached out to over 150,000 women in Tamil Nadu and is on the road to scaling up its activities.

The talk was organized by the Vidya Mandir Alumni Association (VMAA) of the school, as a part of its ongoing initiatives in contributing to the school, the teachers and staff. Mrs Rajalakshmi Sriram from VMAA Committee welcomed the team from Penn Nalam and the teachers.
